Urkai:

When the Lyroa Exodites found the Urkai the meeting could only be tense. Larger than a human these gray colored creatures of mottled pebbled skin and - seemingly - pupilless eyes (later revealed to be a thin transparent membrane), moved with ponderous surety. Yet it was their kindness and welcoming, their sharing of their secret passages and cultivated routes, which convinced the exodites to settle. These Urkai are only superficially humanoid, their insides a complex system of digestion and filtering which allows them to turn even a small supply of cave grown mushrooms into a sustainable source of food. Their bodies are strange things, bulky, made for keeping warm and surviving the sharp winds of high altitudes, covered in leathery growths that mimic the stone around them. Their speech is likewise limited to whispers and the sharp cracks, clicks, and scratches they can make maneuvering their internal gizzard (used for grinding up the hardy nutrient poor plants of the mountains).
