Upon death, this mana is drawn into the Pylons, where it is purified before being released once more to bring about the individual's rebirth. Followers believe that a lifetime devoted to the study of magic and the cultivation of one's mana strengthens the soul's connection to the Pylons. With each reincarnation, that connection deepens, allowing the individual to return wiser, more attuned to magic, and better guided by the Pylons than in the life before.
Northern Renewal adopted and took inspiration over the years from the older faith known as the Ethereal Flow. While the two traditions share many beliefs regarding the cycle between life and death, they differ on the nature of the soul and the limits of magical intervention. Followers of Northern Renewal view the soul as something that can be shaped and refined through the guidance of the Pylons, whereas adherents of the Ethereal Flow believe it should remain untouched by deliberate manipulation.
Despite these theological differences, relations between the two faiths are generally amicable. Worshippers of Northern Renewal hold the followers of the Ethereal Flow in high regard, admiring their ancient traditions and their profound understanding of the natural world. They believe that centuries of observing nature have granted Ethereal Flow practitioners insights into the workings of magic that few scholars or mages can rival.
