Originally Leonine majority, the carnivorous and utterly untamed, the Great Pride answers only to the strongest among them—warlords crowned by sheer might. At the head of their brutal hierarchy stands The Great One, the mightiest of all current warlords, whose reign is upheld not by birthright, but by sheer dominance. Any warlord who wishes to claim this title must challenge the Great One in ritual combat to the death. Victory means ascension; failure means extermination—not just for the challenger, but for his entire bloodline, who are hunted and executed to purge weakness from the Pride. However, if the Great One falls in battle rather than in challenge, his family is honored, their name carried into the heavens, and their guidance is sought by the new ruling lineage.
